Writing for Film
Every writer wants to see their name scroll across the big screen, but it takes a huge amount of work to get a screenplay ready for production. In Writing for Film & Television, you take a comprehensive look at genre expectations and how to craft the often problematic second act, all while refining your screenplays in intensive roundtable workshops.
Script Workshops
Much attention is paid to the development of your first short and feature-length scripts. When taking your first screenplay from concept to treatment, you work in consultation with a committee comprised of Writing faculty to ensure your first long-form sample is as strong as possible. This script may undergo the workshopping process through two drafts, after which you have the option to begin and complete a second feature should you choose the Film stream in later terms.
Production Highlight: Portfolio Shorts
To understand the screenwriter's role in the film industry, you must experience every stage of the production process from the writer's perspective. In Portfolio Shorts, you pitch and write a film that is, at the most, four minutes long. Directors from the Vancouver film industry guide you through your part of development, pre-production, and production.

Final Project
In the Film stream, you commit to strengthening your portfolio of screenplays by working with a single instructor and a smaller workshop group to develop and write your second feature script.
